My father was an engineer, in other words, his lifework was to create products. My mother was good at knitting, my paternal grandmother was adept at dressmaking and my maternal grandmother was skilled at kimono-making. Their hand-made sweaters, scarves, dresses and Yukata were my most favorite things. I was so proud of wearing their works.
I didn't have skillful hands but I liked drawing illustrations and making crafts in my childhood. I wished I could create something by my own hands.
My major in highschool and university and previous job were irrelevant to visual design. Whenever I drew illustrations for greeting cards, I tried my best to make sure that it would express my sincere greetings of congratulations or best wishes to my family, relatives, and friends who celebrate birthdays, weddings, and other special occasions.
After several years of working with different organizations, I got an opportunity to discover and understand what a 'Web Designer' does. The job of creating websites from nothing into something better and sharing information in a visually creative way captivated my heart.
Immediately, I started to learn about web designing which includes how to use designing applications and HTML/CSS. It was so hard because this was my first time to learn programing and I was not adept at visual design. Nevertheless, I am pleased when codes I wrote were appropriate and things were shown on the web browser as I expected. When I visit awesome websites made by other designers, I feel excited and it inspires my mind to create such wonderful websites.
I want to have a work which makes me create something from nothing.
I want to have a work that will enable me to express something through the things that I create.
This is the reason why I want to be a web designer.
